Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is a treatment that acts as a preventative measure to save a tooth from permanent damage. The main purpose of root canal therapy is to remove any infected dental pulp and to restore the health and strength of a tooth. Dental pulp is present in each tooth and is essential as it provides your teeth with nourishment. Infected pulp can cause a lot of pain and distress to teeth and gums and if it is not treated in time, the infection may gradually spread to the neighboring gums and teeth. The symptoms of diseased pulp can be:

•    Swelling of gums and surrounding facial muscles
•    Discoloration of teeth
•    Intensive pain in neck, head and jaw

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms related to an infected pulp, you may require root canal therapy. The removal of the decayed pulp is effectively done by drilling through the tooth enamel and entering the pulp chamber. After the pulp is extracted, the tooth is sealed with gold, porcelain / tooth-colored fillings or covered with a dental crown.
